Changing the Face of the Traditional Classroom

Technology is rapidly changing the way we teach.  Our students have access to information communication devices (smart phones, I Pads, Tablets, computers) that capture their attention.  As teachers we need to capitalize on integrating these devices in our instruction to engage our students.  Gone are the days of merely just fact to face teaching.  The future lies in a blended learning environment that provides face to face instruction along with a virtual classroom.  The student has access to a physical instructor while taking an active role constructing his / her own learning and being fully engaged in the process.  Learning takes place when the student is fully engaged.  These videos provide a brief overview of blended learning and the blended learning environment as well as student perspectives.

Technology In The Classroom

Teachers, embrace technology because it is here to stay!  Our students are more connected and in tuned to technology than we might care to be.  But we are here for our students. To those teachers who may shy away from using technology in the classroom, I say start small.  Begin to integrate technology gradually.  Give yourself time to learn 'something new' then try it out on your students.  You might be surprised that your students will WANT to help you explore and learn all about this new technology.

In the Loop - Teachers, Students and Parents Together

Synergy to move our students forward involves teacher, parents and students working together and being in the loop.  Middle school is a transition for parents and students.  Parents have to learn to let go a little and students must learn to be more responsible.  Teachers must help guide this process.  By working together, we can provide students with the tools needed to be successful.  Parents, I want to keep you in the loop.  Knowing expectations, performance standards, and curriculum requirements (including major projects with due dates) will help achieve the goal.  Look for links to helpful websites, additional lessons, power point presentations and activities to supplement classroom learning.  I also want to enhance instruction by using more technology to communicate and help develop critical thinking skills.  I also want to communicate our successes as well as areas for growth.  Again the goal is to create synergy by keeping everyone in the loop.
